On a routing and scheduling problem concerning multiple edge traversals in graphs

چکیده
Practical vehicle routing problems generally have both routing and scheduling aspects to consider. However, few heuristicmethods exist that address both these complicated aspects simultaneously. We present heuristics to determine an efficient circular traversal of a weighted graph that requires a subset of its edges to be traversed, each a specified (potentially different) number of times. Consecutive time instances at which the same edge has to be traversed should additionally be spaced through a scheduling timewindowas evenly as possible, thus introducing a scheduling consideration to the problem. We present a route construction heuristic for the problem, based on well–known graph theoretic algorithms, as well as a route improvement heuristic, that accepts the solution generated by the construction heuristic as input and attempts to improve it in an iterative fashion. We apply the heuristics to various randomly generated problem instances, and interpret these test results. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. NETWORKS, Vol. 46(2), 69–81 2005

Supply Chain Scheduling Using a Transportation System Composed of Vehicle Routing Problem and Cross-Docking Approaches
This study considers a combination of cross-docking and vehicle routing problem (VRP) approachesto transport raw material and parts in a supply chain. The supply chain is composed of some supplierswhich are spread in different geographical zones and multiple shared vehicles with different speedsand capacities for transporting orders from the suppliers to a manufacturer. After ...
متن کاملA JOINT DUTY CYCLE SCHEDULING AND ENERGY AWARE ROUTING APPROACH BASED ON EVOLUTIONARY GAME FOR WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORKS
Network throughput and energy conservation are two conflicting important performance metrics for wireless sensor networks. Since these two objectives are in conflict with each other, it is difficult to achieve them simultaneously. In this paper, a joint duty cycle scheduling and energy aware routing approach is proposed based on evolutionary game theory which is called DREG. Making a trade-off ...
متن کاملA multi-product vehicle routing scheduling model with time window constraints for cross docking system under uncertainty: A fuzzy possibilistic-stochastic programming
Mathematical modeling of supply chain operations has proven to be one of the most complex tasks in the field of operations management and operations research. Despite the abundance of several modeling proposals in the literature; for vast majority of them, no effective universal application is conceived. This issue renders the proposed mathematical models inapplicable due largely to the fact th...
متن کاملMulti-objective routing and scheduling for relief distribution with split delivery in post-disaster response
Following the occurrence of unexpected events and natural disasters, a highly important relief operation is the transferring of relief commodities from the distribution centers (CDs) to shelters. In this paper, a three-level network consisting of depot of vehicles, distribution centers and shelters has been considered for routing and scheduling of relief vehicles through introducing a multi-obj...
متن کاملThe Special Application of Vehicle Routing Problem with Uncertainty Travel Times: Locomotive Routing Problem
This paper aims to study the locomotive routing problem (LRP) which is one of the most important problems in railroad scheduling in view of involving expensive assets and high cost of operating locomotives. This problem is assigning a fleet of locomotives to a network of trains to provide sufficient power to pull them from their origins to destinations by satisfying a rich set of operational con...
